David Austen Smoking Moon

Smoking Moon (BFI) (01/07/2009)

Smoking Moon is an uncanny representation of the moon; comical yet unsettling, it demonstrates David Austen’s exploration of the darker side of the human psyche and the displacement of the moon from reality to myth. This work is Austen’s first moving image piece, an example of the artist’s distinct use of fragmented narrative as well as a tribute to early cinema and its representation of the moon.
