Film-maker, novelist, artist, playwright, entrepreneur, Jean Cocteau (1889-1963) regarded himself above all as a poet, who saw poetry as central to his vision of all the arts. In this bilingual edition, the only one currently in print, Jeremy Reed has translated a generous selection of Cocteau’s most durable poems.
The text is hand-set in 14pt Garamond, printed on Canaletto 160gsm (fine), and laid into hand-made solanders by The Fine Bindery. It is printed in loose folios, interspersed with 26 offset lithographic colour images by David Austen. Each solander comes with a signed original etching by Austen, printed on 400gsm Somerset at the London Print Workshop. The 75 copies, each signed by the translator and artist, are separated into five editions, A to E, each edition (totalling 15 copies) contained in a different coloured solander (beige, imperial purple, red, blue, black) with a different etching.
